Building upon the success of the current stable of Australasian businesses and leveraging new opportunities are the key objectives of the recently appointed CEO of Veolia Transport Australasia (VTA), Mr Jonathan Metcalfe.

‘This is a critical juncture in VTA’s development. There are many challenges and some terrific opportunities as governments invest record funds into public transport,’ said Mr Metcalfe.

‘We are committed to growing Veolia Transport’s presence in Australasia through acquisitions, organic growth and new business activities. ‘We aim to transform Veolia Transport into Australasia’s acknowledged leader in managing mobility solutions. This will be achieved as we continue to put the customer first, remain a trusted partner with government and private company clients, and further develop a high performance workforce and culture,’ he said.

Mr Metcalfe has extensive experience in passenger transport. He managed the GNER rail system in the UK and most recently, the Melbourne metropolitan rail network from February 2008 to November 2009. Mr Hans Baunsoe, the former head of VTA who was instrumental in the company’s growth, is returning to Europe after five years in Australasia.

VTA is one of the region's leading public transport providers. More than 56 million passenger journeys a year are made in Australia and New Zealand on its train, bus, light rail and monorail operations. In partnership with local governments, public authorities and private companies, VTA delivers services in Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and the South West region of Western Australia.
