Sydney Ferries – An Opportunity Missed

22/12/09, 9:09am
Veolia Transport Australasia confirmed today that its bid to operate Sydney Ferries had not been successful.

“This is a very disappointing outcome for our company but more importantly for the customers of Sydney Ferries,” said Edward Thomas, Acting Chief Executive of Veolia Transport Australasia.

“Veolia Transport presented the NSW Government with a very credible bid and we are sure that an opportunity has been missed. An opportunity to improve services, an opportunity to reinvigorate the workforce, and an opportunity to provide better value-for-money for the taxpayers of NSW.

“Our view is that the best harbour in the world deserves a ferry service to match. We were sure that our offer would have set the ferries on a course to improvement. “The clear roadmap outlined in the Walker Report appears to have been ignored.

“Nevertheless we will continue to work with the NSW Government, as a current bus operator and the operator of the Sydney light rail and monorail, to enhance public transport in NSW. We will keep suggesting new ideas and proposing new mobility solutions,” said Mr Thomas.
